This Nanotechnology Could Replace Batteries
There are more than eight billion electronic devices created each year. One day, NTS Innovations may power all of them.
NTS is a technology company and semiconductor-chip manufacturer transforming how we power electronics. Using patented nanotechnology, its technology allows for an uninterrupted energy supply without ongoing maintenance. And it has the potential to replace batteries in a wide range of consumer electronics.
Between lights, wearables, laptops, medical devices, and smartphones, there are more than eight billion electronic devices created a year. More than two million alone come from a group known as the Internet of Things (IoT) — a term for devices that are all connected to each other via the internet.
But across all of these applications, battery limitations frustrate industries. They don’t last long enough or require too much maintenance to work as a viable solution. This is where NTS can be disruptive.
Imagine a world where dead batteries and constant replacements are a thing of the past. That’s the world NTS aims to create. With its technology, this company is creating a future where devices harvest energy from their environment, enabling uninterrupted operation.
NTS’s technology is known as nanoscale-energy harvesting. Essentially, its semiconductor chips harness the power of nanotechnology to capture ambient energy — thermal, radiation, vibrations, radio frequencies — and convert it into usable electricity.
This chip-level integration is expected to allow devices to generate their own power, eliminating the need for bulky, wasteful batteries.
Built with non-toxic materials and emitting no harmful byproducts, NTS’s technology aligns with the increasing demand for eco-friendly solutions. And its technology roadmap goes beyond the IoT and wireless sensors, with the goal of offering a solution to power wearables, medical devices, consumer electronics, smart homes, and even aerospace components.
NTS has been granted thirteen patents for its technology. And it’s raised more than seven million dollars from investors, including Meyer Enterprises, a materials company started by NTS’s CEO Donald Meyer.
NTS is in the research & development stage and aims to release its technology by the end of 2025.
Prior to founding NTS Innovation, Donald founded Meyer Enterprises, the parent company of ISI Building Products, a materials company.
Throughout his career, he has gained experience in sales, strategy, and product development.
Prior to joining NTS in 2021, Thomas spent thirty-two years with Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT), a construction-equipment manufacturer, including twenty years in executive roles.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Computer Science from the University of Iowa and an MBA from Bradley University.
Julie has more than two decades of experience in managerial and accounting roles. Prior to NTS Innovations, she co-founded Meyer Enterprises with Donald.
